  • Canoe or Kayak float down the Deschutes River.  From the Marina you can rent canoes, kayaks, rafts and stand-up paddle boards, and float down the river. Take your time- stop along the way to swim or picnic.  The take-out spot is clearly marked and Marina staff will be there to assist removing the boat from the river and loading onto the trailer.  If you take your time it should take about 2-3 hours.

Biking- Sunriver has over 34 miles of paved easy bike paths that the entire family can enjoy.  No need to share the road with any cars.  These trails take you everywhere you might want to go- just follow the map and the corresponding pathway signage.  (You can also download the Komoot app for online mapping).  These paths are also great for taking long walks and spotting the wildlife that lives in and around Sunriver. Paper bike maps are in the kitchen side table.

SHARC- This is the main recreational pool and waterpark for visitors.  The house comes with (10) SHARC passes.  These passes are very expensive so please do not lose them.

Fort Rock Park- This amazing park has something for everyone- wide open spaces for Frisbee or Softball.  Playground, tennis and pickleball.   Great place for a picnic.  This is also one of the locations for summer camps/daycare while in Sunriver.

Ride to Benham Falls- Easy paved pathway out of Sunriver to a large dirt path that leads to spectacular waterfalls and scenic views of Deschutes River rapids.

Sunriver Village- Fun to walk around- there is always something going on; mini golf, ice skating, village kiddie train, Art Festival, and quilt show.

  • Rio Sol- great for good Latin food- but the real star are their amazing margaritas.  Family favs are pomegranate.  One is FUN, two will make it hard to bike back to the house.  Not open during the winter.

Sunriver Brewing Company (in the village and now in the Sunriver Business Park)- Average pub food, great pretzels, and excellent beer.  Usually pretty crowded so plan on a small wait if you go during lunch or dinner hours.  Grab a growler or a six pack and bring home.

South Bend Bistro (located on the backside of the Village along Abbot Drive)- Probably the best fine dining in Sunriver- great wine list and inventive cuisine using locally sourced products.

Café Sintra- (in the Village across Beaver Drive from the Market)- Great breakfast and lunch food and friendly staff.  Amazing homemade muffins and pastry.

Village Bar and Grill- (in the Village)- Nice place with great outdoor seating centrally located in the Village.  Average food but great for family dining.

Goody’s- (in the Village)- a “must do” for those who love ice cream and sweets.  Great caramel corn and fabulous ice cream.  They are not efficient so settle in for a little wait.

Lake House @ Caldera Springs- a nice new place located out of the Village in the new Caldera Springs Development of Sunriver.  Great views and a lovely place to share a bottle of wine.

  • High Desert Museum- excellent interactive museum just outside of Sunriver.  Great for small and large children.  Interactive animal exhibits- Birds of Prey, porcupine, river otters to name a few, as well as logging, settler, and natural history all displayed to engage the visitor.  Amazing!

Paulina Plunge/MacKay Crossing waterfall- The Paulina Plunge is an organized downhill mountain biking and area tour.  It is lovely and fun to do with family members of every age.  HOWEVER, the best part of the plunge is going to the waterfalls- our favorite is the falls located at the McCay Crossing campground.  Skip the tour and just follow the signs to Paulina Lakes, about halfway up the hill turn left at the signs for McKay Crossing campground, go in the bumpy road and park in the campground.  There is a short hike to the falls/swimming hole- bring your water shoes, towel and picnic.  It’s a great spot.

Mt. Bachelor- This is a beautiful mountain only 20 minutes out of Sunriver.  It is a winter playground with world class skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing. Sometimes, you can even take a dog sled ride (check availability) In the summer, it is open for breathtaking hikes and downhill mountain biking.

Tumalo Falls- roughly 30 min outside of Sunriver (with a 10 minute drive on an unpaved road).  This hike has many waterfalls along the way- fairly easy switchback.  Stunning and worth the drive.

Big Eddy Rafting- Very fun and not too long on the river (See www.suncountrytours.com) or see the Sun Country Tours Office in the Village.  Save yourself some time and bus riding and meet the group in Bend and then get on their busses to go to the river.

4th of July- A LOT of stuff to do this weekend- our favorite is the Bend pet parade- it is like nothing you have seen before.  Another fun thing that same weekend is the LaPine Rodeo.

Sisters, Oregon- This is a lovely little mountain town known for its quaint shopping district and world class quilt show.  Worth the 40-minute drive.

Go see a Bend Elks Baseball game- The Bend Elks are a collegiate summer baseball team that competes at the Vince Genna Stadium in Southern Bend.  A great way to spend a warm summer evening (they serve great craft beer) and see tomorrow’s MLB stars.  Additionally, you can book batting cages at the stadium.

Deschutes County Fair- If you want to experience a great county fair this is the one for you.  A beautiful setting, great rodeo and fabulous fair food- don’t miss the marionberry cobbler!  Wear your newest Wrangler jeans and you will fit right in.

Mountain Biking- There are more trails to list here, but here are some of the fav’s:

    Phil’s Trail complex

Ride from Sunriver to Bend- ride along river
